The two place aircraft will run very well on motor gas or 100LL, solving the upcoming problem of when lead gets banned from avgas.

All the models of the new Piper entrant into the light sport aircraft market will sport the famous Rotax 912 engine bringing Piper back into the entry-level aircraft arena. It is hoped that this new aircraft will begin to fill the funnel of customers for Piper Aircraft’s other aircraft.

PiperSport Specifications

The aircraft will have a useful load of 600 pounds with a maximum gross weight of 1,320 pounds, with the fuel tanks holding 30 gallons of fuel for a maximum range of 600 nautical miles.

A representative from Piper stated that “The PiperSport is an amazing entry-level aircraft that will bring new customers into Piper and lead the way for those customers to step up into more sophisticated and higher performance aircraft within our line over time.”

The Piper J3 Cub is widely regarded as the airplane that brought general aviation and flying to the public at large, and Piper intends to regain that position as a leader in introducing flying to the general population.
