First Cessna Skycatcher to Go to Woman Pilot

It seems to pay to be related to the CEO of Cessna Aircraft Company. Jack Pelton’s wife, Rose, will get the very first Cessna 162 Skycatcher which she will use to pursue her Private Pilot’s license.

When Rose Pelton saw the mockup of the Cessna 162 at Oshkosh back in 2007 she decided that was the aircraft she wanted to fly. Despite the two crashes during testing production in China has begun and Rose should receive her airplane before the end of the year.
Cessna Aircraft says it has a backlog of some 1,000 orders for the Skycatcher, so Cessna’s new training program has helped promote flying among the public.
This new Cessna aircraft is powered with a 100hp Continental O-200D engine which will propel the aircraft to 118 knots and carry the airplane some 470 nautical miles. Using a Garmin F300 avionics system the airplane has a single split-screen primary flight display and multi-function display for VFR day and night operations.
As an LSA (Light Sport Aircraft) pilots can get their Sport Pilot License or a Private Pilot’s license in the aircraft.
Women continue to pursue aviation both as a vocation and avocation. Let’s hope more women get into our ranks, and that aviation begins to grow again in the future.
