In an effort to continue to inform, educate and entertain pilots, All Things Aviation continues to find ways to provide relevant and timely information on general aviation. With this in mind we are announcing two new features that will soon appear here.

First, once a month we will have a guest blog post by Dr. Walter F. Erston from Charlotte, NC. Dr. Erston is a Commercial Pilot with airplane single and multi-engine land, instrument airplane and glider ratings. With over 4,000 hours of flight time Dr. Erston also is a part time charter pilot with BSME and MME degrees from Cornell, and graduated as a Medical Doctor from SUNY College of Medicine.
Dr. Erston has been writing his own blog at Operation Safe Flight since February of last year and will bring a unique point of view regarding safety in general aviation. Be sure and watch for his posts in the future.

We are also excited to announce that we will be working with AmSafe, a company which manufactures airbag seat belts for general aviation aircraft, in an effort to make more pilots and aircraft owners aware of the products available to them. As part of tis effort we will be publishing articles and podcasts detailing the advantages and benefits of these AmSafe products which have been designed to make flying safer for everyone.

Many companies like Cessna Aircraft and Piper Aircraft already offer these airbag seatbelt systems available on new aircraft, but they are also available as after market products to aircraft owners. Be sure and watch for these articles and podcasts which will be coming soon.

Recently a man asked whether the business of flying ever could be regulated by rules and statutes. I doubt it. Not that flying men are lawless. No one realizes better than they the need for discipline. But they have learned discipline through constant contact with two of the oldest statutes in the universe – the law of gravity and the law of self-preservation.

Ten feet off the ground these two laws supersede all others and there is little hope of their repeal.

— Walter Hinton, 24 July 1926, in an adventure article on flying in ‘Liberty’ magazine.
