Another UAV

The US Air Force is trying out a new UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) called the “Batcam”. This unique aerial vehicle is carried in a tube, much like the tubes we get mail in. The operator simply pulls it out, it expands into the correct shape and is ready for launch.

This unique vehicle weighs some .8 oz, has a nine (9) mile range and is made out of carbon fiber which is very strong and can be folded easily. The vehicle can be controlled with a controller that is similar to the ones used for rc aircraft, or a computer can be used to program the vehicle with co-ordinates to be viewed.

The military is developing a large number of these useful little vehicles and are very interesting developments in the war on terror. Sure beats those tubes we built with mirrors as kids to look out of the trench at the approaching “enemy”, eh?

Until next time keep your wings straight and level Hersch!
