Well, its that time of the year again. My thoughts wander to thinking about the throaty roar of the Merlin engine in a P-51, the roar of the T-6 Texans as they careen across the bright blue sky, spewing white smoke which curls with stunning maneuvers.
Its nearly the end of July, and on July 28th of this year the fun begins in Oshkosh. 10,000 aircraft with their bold pilots arrive to stare, gawk and share All Things Aviation. Each year at this time the Oshkosh airport becomes the busiest airport in the world with aircraft ranging from the oldest to the newest and including the greatest.
Ford Tri-motors to F-22 Raptors, the skies are filled with adventure and history. You can take a ride in the "Aluminum Overcast" restored B-17G, a Bell 47 helicopter ride or take off from the grass of Pioneer Airport in a Ford Tri-Motor. Whatever your interest in aviation, you will find it at the EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh at the end of July each year.
Take a stroll through the air museum or explore the old time Pioneer Airport to learn about the aviation of days past. Its like getting an intravenous injection of avgas and jetfuel to give you your aviation high. If you have never been there, then you MUST go! There is nothing like it, and it should not be missed.
As you stroll around you might see Harrison Ford, Bob Hoover or even Chuck Yeager wandering through the throngs while the Red Bull aerobatic helicopter struts its stuff. This show is the thing memories are made of!
Plan to attend now and join the fun!
Until next time keep your wings straight and level Hersch!
