An Autopilot For Your Light Sport Aircraft?

by John M. White |

I knew that there has been increasing interest in Light Sport Aircraft (LSAs) in recent years, but I did not realize how much interest there really is.  Well, Dynon Avionics is now offering an autopilot for Experimental and Light Sport Aircraft, and apparently there is quite a bit of interest in them.

I also did not realize that Electronic Flight Instrument Systems (EFIS) were being put into these aircraft, but apparently they are far more common than I knew.  Dynon EFIS-D10A, EFIS-D100 and FlightDEK-D180 EFIS systems are being installed in these aircraft and, by adding a couple of servos for pitch and roll, can add autopilot capabilities for these aircraft.

Currently the Van series of aircraft - the RV-4, RV-6, RV-7, RV-8 and RV-9 - have aircraft specific kits available for installation, along with a generic mounting kit for other aircraft.  RV-9

Dynon Avionics is the leading manufacturer of avionics for Experimental and LSAs, and is committed to bringing innovatice and high quality avionics at affordable prices for Experimental and Light Sport Aircraft.  For more information you can go to their website at

"High Flight"

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds...and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of...wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up, the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, nor even eagle flew.
And while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space...
...put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
