We have all heard about noise cancelling aviation headsets known as ANR headsets and passive aviation headsets known as PNR headsets. One way or another the goal is to cancel out or block noise inside the cockpit so that pilots can communicate safely and clearly with ground controls as they conduct their flights. In the case of ANR (Active Noise Reduction) headsets the headset introduces a noise cancelling signal (sound) that cancels out other sounds that you might be able to hear. On the other hand, PNR (Passive Noise Reduction) headsets use barriers, absorption materials or dampening methods to reduce noise. Sometimes the PNR aviation headsets accomplish this goal by clamping the headset down on your head, which means the headset is so tight it squeezes your head and can become somewhat uncomfortable over a long period of time. ANR aviation headsets can be quite effective, and sometimes have an adjustment to improve the noise cancelling effect by altering the frequency of the signals used to block other noises. So here is my question - does anyone know what kind of headsets these two fools were wearing, and were the the cause of this accident?
