Life In Michigan

by John M. White |  | 2 comments

For those of us who live in Michigan we are experiencing some of the worst financial conditions in the country, and with the dawn of each day it seems more bad news comes. Our Governor wants to raise taxes but our legislature wants to cut taxes. The battle is ongoing but funding runs out in a couple of days. Fall Leaves In Michigan To force the issue our Governor has reduced payments to schools, I imagine in order to convince the legislature to take her approach and raise taxes on the few of us still here. Whatever the outcome I am glad I am not responsible for any of those decisions. In the meantime what apparently was a Beech A-36 crashed taking off from the Battle Creek/Kalamazoo International Airport, on the airport's property bursting into flames. Rumor has it the owner had been in Kalamazoo to have his aircraft's engine worked on. If someone on the airport has worked on that aircraft immediately before this fatal crash it could bring even more trouble than the good old Michigan economy. I may be a little erratic on my postings as the Michigan economy has caught up with me, and my job has been eliminated. A lot of things need to be looked at, evaluated and perhaps changed in the short run. Until next time keep your wings straight and level Hersch! JetAviator7 When the weight of the paper equals the weight of the airplane, only then you can go flying. — attributed to Donald Douglas (Mr. DC-n).

Its the rapid acceleration of change. We have also suffered from the poor economy in Pennsylvania. My wife became unemployed 6 months ago, my company just sold my division to another company. Politics and especially the budget crisis are staggering. In all this turmoil I find that the few hours spent at the airport around airplanes is the one place to have solace. Take some time to refresh yourself, I don’t think it is going to get easier anytime soon.

For those of us that love aviation I think Congress shooting at GM and others for flight departments was like an arrow into our hearts.

Aviation has always lead the development of new consumer products and should be embraced, not excoriated.

Keep up the good fight and have faith, aviation isn’t dead yet.
