Offutt Air Force Base

by John White |

Most of us live in relative ignorance of what the military does for us unless there is a war on; then, the news coverage is all about casualties and political rhetoric about what is going on. But the U.S. military is a much larger organization that performs many missions which are not necessarily related to a war in some far flung corner of the world. In fact, most members of the military never get to the war zones, but nonetheless perform necessary and important functions meant to protect our liberty and freedom. In the heartland of America is Offutt Air Force Base where the U.S. Air Force launches aircraft to anywhere in the world. For example, one of the recent missions flown from Offutt Air Force Base was to send special aircraft to monitor radiation levels over the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster in Japan. For more information on this particular mission you can watch this short video "Offutt Plane Used To Monitor Japan's Nuclear Crisis". Those who join the U.S. Air Force do it mainly because of the airplanes, and where there are airplanes there is sure to be the occasional air show - and Offutt Air Force Base is no exception!
For those who live near Offutt Air Force Base they take things a little more personal. For example, note how one farmer living nearby shows his appreciation for the personnel at Offutt Air Force Base: This is an image of the approach to Offutt Air Force Base: Approach To Offutt Air Force Base Notice the message in the field in the lower left hand corner of the photo above?
