How would you like to make a billion dollar bet? Just to be clear, we are talking about $ 1,000,000,000 - that's a lot of zeros! Well, a gentleman by the name of Guy Hachey (CEO of Bombardier) is doing exactly that. Most of us know that Boeing and Airbus are the "big boys" when it comes to commercial aircraft; however, Bombardier has been making inroads in the 100 seat aircraft market and doing quite well. Bombardier is a $20 billion dollar company and is looking to spend $ 3.5 billion to build and market a 100 to 150 seat aircraft.
Hachey said Bombardier's C Series will deliver an "optimized product" built specifically for the 100 to 150-seat market. On its website the company says its aircraft will be lighter and more fuel efficient, yet provide a "best-in-class, wide-body cabin environment."
Here is a video interview of Mr. Hachey: An article in CNN gave the following information on Bombardier:
Founded in 1942, Bombardier is a relatively new kid on the aviation block. The company expanded from trains to planes in the 1980s and is now the third largest aircraft manufacturer. Its aerospace division now employs 33,600 people, with an annual turnover of £8.6 billion. According to Hachey, the company now has the scale to take such challenges.
