What Can You Do With $ 200,000?

by John M. White |

Well, if you are into space, then you could go to VirginGalactic and book a reservation for a flight into outer space. Virgin Galactic is the world’s first spaceline, a new version of airline. Traveling on its very own privately built spaceships you can take an exhilarating journey beginning from Spaceport America in New Mexico. Flights will be weekly and each flight will carry two pilots and 6 astronaut passengers. The spaceship is carried up to 50,000 feet on the mothership “Whiteknight2” where the spaceship is released and lights off its hybrid rocket. It then climbs to over 360,000 feet in about 1 ½ minutes and accelerates to just over mach 3 (3 times the speed of sound). The spaceship folds its wings for re-entry, and then at about 60,000 feet unfolds the wings for a carefree unpowered glide landing back at the spaceport. Let’s see – this flight probably lasts just over an hour, including the climb to 50,000 feet. Then a couple of minutes as the craft reaches its apogee and begins its plunge back into the atmosphere, and then the glide to a landing. So, $ 200,000 divided by 60 minutes equals $ 3,333.33 per minute. Well, looking at it that way you should be able to save up for your ticket in about 5 years socking away $ 40k per year. What a deal, eh Hersch! Until next time keep your wings straight and level Hersch! JetAviator7 ps: Don't forget to sign up for our newsletter "All Things Aviation" here!
