Those of us who love airplanes and flying love anything that flies. Whenever we hear the sound of an aircraft engine we look skyward to see if we can spot the aircraft, or when we drive by an airport we slow down as we watch an aircraft taking off or landing. You know the feeling. But we are also fascinated by birds as well. Who among us has not stopped and watched a hawk wheeling above some woods or an open field, looking for dinner. And - if you have been lucky - have seen the hawk swoop down, grab a rodent or snake and soar skyward once again. The beauty of flight is what attracts us to aviation. It is why we love to fly airplanes. Its the freedom, the challenge and the thrill of slipping the surly bonds of earth! Well, here is a video which captures the essence of flight. Taken at 1000 frames per second you will see an owl come in for a landing. Note the fluttering wing feathers as he decelerates, and catch the airflow over his wings. Here is pure poetry in motion. Don't you wish you could fly as gracefully as this? Until next time keep your wings straight and level Hersch! JetAviator7+ ps: Don't forget to sign up for our newsletter "All Things Aviation" here!
